wikis

I like the idea of a "Book lovers" wiki--a book discussion online.
I also used a wiki for an LATI assignment where we had a "worse case scenario" that we had to brainstorm solutions for. In theory it shoul have worked well, but one member got over zealous and became the guru of our wiki. This is one of the pit falls of a wiki. Everyone can edit, or in some cases, expound on something they are the resident expert on. Good starting point for research, but in no case 100% reliable resource.

library 2.0

I read all the articles presented here. Memories of LATI are just too fresh, but I digress.

I got the following out of the authours comments
  • we should steer away from a "just in case" collection of books. This is the reason we have created a book deposit collection on the RR with our abundance of book that fit into this category. We hope they will get a secind chance in the center itself
  • we should place library services into their daily patterns of life in the users preferred environment. access*information*service*anytime*anywhere. sounds a bit familiar.
  • technology should be put to the test---does it meet the users need in a new or improved way? this, I see, is the point of 23 things. though many new tech items are not for me, I see the need for others to use tech to make their job/life easier

del.icio.us

This site could be useful....I have doubts. I could place all my favorites on here and access them anywhere I log in. But my life tends to be compartmentalized and I have personal favorites at my PC at home and work favorites here. I would need to have a different perspective to use this site very much.
I did, though, find and add a link to "Libriarian chick" which could be a great resource at work.

technorati revisited

I went online to check for blogs about Villa Julie, where my son attends. Amazingly enough I found a bunch of blogs that were created to fulfill a requirement for a "writing for the web" language arts class. Most of them were strangely similar---"this is my first post for my class...." or "I have to do this blog, so here it goes...". Just the same thing that many HCPL bloggers used on their first post. It must be the universal virgin post!

Library thing

I thought this was just too cool. I immediately began to enter my favorite authors and created a list of "read" and "want to read". It is great to have this in one place, since my other attempts to keep a reading journal have always been put aside and are not very useful. I will be using this! I also sent the link to my son, who in less then 24 hrs had over 100 books listed, many of which were the overflow from his my space and facebook pages.

Technorati

The website got a face lift in July, which was interesting. Since I did the blog session during the Technology Fair I had seen alot on Technorati. I liked the changes. Before it seemed a bit overwhelming with so many links, photos, videos, etc . Now it was a much cleaner look. I liked the way the blogs updates while you are looking, and the "what's popping now" portion gives a view of recent hot topics. Also, I liked how the blogs are categorized to make it easier to find what you a re interested in. This is a keeper.

rollyo

The following several blogs were done weeks ago when I was an "Edgewood Refugee" and had to work in Joppa because our branch was closed due to excessive heat. Since then my duties at work have overshadowed this assignment. Now that I am down to the wire I must proceed.

Rollyo--this searchroll tool was not very impressive for me. I did a quick quotes search for "may the force be with you" and got no relevent hits. Instead I got Star Wars toys, Life force Vitamins and an encyclopdia. Then I tried to search photos of "Zac Efron" and got ringtones, blogresults and a link for yahoo. Doubt I will use this again.
